Informed Africans should be resourceful and creative so they do not have to depend on any external group to support their activities. At the same time, in the interest of justice and of making the wider population aware of the issues, they should speak out against wrongs in the wider society, by state and private sectors.
Obviously when I spoke of overwhelming blackness in response to overwhelming whiteness you did not get it. I certainly do mean informed blacks who are infused with a serious vision for African people and means to articulate it. I am speaking of well- informed blacks who have demonstrated integrity in their dealings with issues. If the system cannot even see the merit in these voices- the symbol and the integrity of action, then they certainly are not competent to judge the merit of anyone. In light of this, it is the duty of these informed ones to speak out against political appointments that enforce and embrace the racist, colonized status quo.
You speak of the effect of Willie Lynchism as if it is some rhetoric and not a concrete reality. The solution to the effects of colourism is not for the victims to cave and accept the system.
You say:
"I've studied the site for years and have read a lot of the information. I'M SAYING THAT WE SHOULD FORGIVE AND FORGET. Brown privilege is a reality, but that doesn't mean that all brown people act in this way and it is stupid to assume that they do."
If Willie Lynchism and brown/ light skinned privilege is a reality then the issue should always be considered when dealing with black issues. The fact that many Black Rasta Bajans are upset about this says that this decision was made without proper consultation and without any sensitivities to the feeling, concerns of the grass roots black population. I am sure that there are black women in Barbados doing much for African liberation that were not even considered for this post. If the traditional view is that these Blacks are unable to lead, even Black issues, then the idea of real merit is out the door - real merit must be considered on ALL levels.
If what you came up with here is your considered opinion after reading this site, as you say 'for years', then I suggest that you take a few more years - maybe you will get it then. I have encountered many whites on this board and indeed many colonized blacks; those who claimed to have good intentions, those who claimed to want advancement for African people, and many have at one time spouted the forgive and forget crap without any real understanding of what that means or the real effective way to go about any kind of justice and healing. Well they were all exposed in the end….
