No time to reason this fully right now, but how exactly is "a symbolic language similar to hieroglyphs" different from "the written word"??
Now if you mean we are evolving telephathy like some of my idrens dem does talk about, that's a different story. I think I have experienced telepathy myself (I and a then-girlfriend having virtually the exact same dream one night, as I found out when she told me in the morning). But I haven't seen any indication that it will be a viable, reliable means of communication any time soon (and not sure if I'd want it to be... do you want to know other people's every thought, do you want them to know yours?) Until then I'll continue to rely on the written word...
