Greetings Bantu Kelani,
Just a very brief reply for now, I'm only on the net for a sec. Just to clarify: in talking about the Bible being written by Black Africans, I was talking about Rasta people's idea of it at the time, not about whether or not it actually was... I said "as far as they [early Rastas] were concerned" cos that was, in the main, their belief, as I understand it. I am not saying I agree with it (although I think ultimately all these books like the Bible have a lot in them that is derivative from original African sources.) Actually I more tend to agree with your and Ayinde's position on the Bible, although I do think it is worthwhile to read and does contain valuable wisdom and guidance within it.
As for the "lack of militance" of continental Africans, let me re-iterate that that is not MY sentiment, it is a sentiment I have heard expressed enough times by diaspora (particularly caribbean) Africans that I think it reflects a fairly widespread prejudice. If I did not make it clear enough that I do not AGREE with that sentiment, let me make it clear now.
Continental and diaspora Africans do have prejudices towards one another, that is one of them that I have heard expressed quite a few times from the diaspora African side. The "laziness" thing is more what I tend to associate as a continental African prejudice towards diaspora Africans, and also a caribbean-african prejudice against africans in north america.
I mentioned Rastas who hold fast to Black Supremacy, could be suspicious of light skinned or mixed race people as well as whites, and see Haile Selassie as the Almighty in flesh, to show that not all Rastas who hold Selassie as the literal, physical representation of the almighty, could reasonably be accused of being (light skin) color-fixated. As I said, it seems to me that there are rastas who could be said to worship His Majesty IN SPITE OF his brown complexion and "mixed race", not because of it, just as there are rastas for whom it doesn't matter, and just as there are rastas or supposed rastas who do indeed fit the cap being described in Eja's post.
Well that's all I have time for now, just wanted to clear up those points. Eja and Ayinde, I will reply a next time. Peace out.
