Dejazmatch Tafari Became The Governor Of Harar

It was during the illness of Emperor Menelik, that Dejazmatch Tafari was appointed to be governor of Harar, and this was revealed to him, by Ras Bitwaddad Tasamma, who was then in charge of the government administration, in accord with Empress Taitu. Dejazmatch Tafari was very humble and thankful, when he was suddenly told of his appointment as governor of Harar, as he thank the elders who were present, and told them that he would try to be his best to govern Harar properly, with the help of those of his elders and nobles. The proclamation concerning this appointment was made in the Grand Square on the 3rd of March 1910. But before Dejazmatch Tafari was able to go to Harar, to take up his appointment, it was reported suddenly, that Ras Bitwaddad Tasamma was trying to undermine the Governmental work of Empress Taitu, by influencing his followers, to stir up a plot against her. With Emperor Menelik being very sick, and was actually Paralyzed, he was unable to carry on his work in government as he used to do, so naturally, the next person in line who was able to do what Emperor Menelik , wished to be done, was Empress Taitu, but because she was a woman, there were some men, who were also close to the throne room administration, who were willing to test the power and self determination of Empress Taitu, just to see if they could take over the control of governing, while Emperor Menelik was sick and helpless. They even go as far as to ask Dejazmatch Tafari to join them in their conspiracy and he boldly refused. Now all of this information was revealed to Empress Taitu. Their true intention was to try to evict her from the palace, and take away her powers of governmental administration, and share it up among themselves. Well, the main leader of the conspiracy was Ras Bitwaddad Tasamma, but he pretended that he was not involved in this plot, and used others who were involve to be the spoke persons, when they were in the presence of Empress Taitu and others. After this matter was blowing in the wind for some time, a meeting was called in the presence of Empress Taitu, with all the nobles concerned. Then, Fitawari Habta Giyorgis, who became the spoke man for the conspirators, opened his mouth and said the following things: We are not pleased about all of the work which Empress Taitu is carrying out, and particularly about the appointments, and dismissals. Dejazmatch Tafari’s appointment to his father’s governorship is good and his alone will stand, but the remaining appointments and dismissals are to be cancelled. In the future, Empress Tauti is not to interfere with the business of government, we will take care of that, she must spend her time in the Palace taking care of the sick Emperor Menelik.
After the spoke man had finish his speech, Empress Taitu, rebuked them, and told them that she had known of their conspiracy to try to evict her from the palace all along, as for Ras Bitwaddad Tasamma, she rebuked him personally, revealing to him that she was aware that he was the ring leader of the plot, and told him that he should be a shame of his self as an Ethiopian noble. When Empress Taitu was finished expressing her disappointment in them all, they apologized and then asked her for forgiveness, which she granted them, without even speaking, while she spent some time weeping silently. Empress Taitu, also asked Dejazmatch Tafari if they had asked him to be a part of the plot against her, but he denied that they had asked him, then she said to him, I know the truth that they had asked you and you told them no, I do know that it is because you are a young man of great discretion why you are denying that they did ask you, but you did the right thing by telling them no.
After that Ras Bitwaddad Tasamma, and his followers, were allowed to carry on the business of government without any further trouble at that time.
