Re: Ras Marcus Speaks on the Rasta Movement

I know Sam Brown very well, He produced an album which is called Teacher, back in about 1988 or there about, I did play Nyabinghi Drums on that Album and it was recorded at Jimmy Cliff's Recording Studio, I think Ras Records has the rights for the distribution of that Album.

In the History of the Rastafari Movement True Rastafari people were always opposed to party poli-ticks, poli-tricks as well as politics. The Rastafari people's greatest interest and agitation, was for Repatriation, Africa for Africans those at home and those abroad, Rastafari people in those day, called the politicians blood suckers, because they were always making promises about what they would do for the masses of the people, if they were ever elected, but when they are elected, then they send up the cost of living upon the masses of the people, making various kinds of excuses as they implement serious downpression upon the people. Therefore, Rastafari people, never find any good reason to be involve in party politics, so Rastafari people never vote. I myself had never voted in any election, and have no intention of doing so.

When Sam Brown run for public office, he was being influenced by a politician who's name was Buchanan, and they operated out of Sam Brown's Yard at Marcus Garvey Drive, formerly Foreshore Road. First of all, it was a very expensive matter for him to participate in, but Sam Brown was a very eloquent speaker, and he consider that his speeches could work, but to get votes in political matters, you have to be able to buy the people with political gifts and bribes, and Sam Brown just could not afford that. The mistake that his political adviser made, was to think that Sam Brown would have been able to influence, the Rastafari people to vote for him, but he was wrong, because Rastafari people never take part in any party politics Election, in the history of the movement. I am not sure now what the figure is, but Sam Brown may have had less than 300 votes if so many, a Jamaica daily Gleaner research for that period, will produce that information, so again, the masses of Rastafari people, have not dealth with party politics as far as I can recall.
Again I send many oceans of blessings and self determination to African people everywhere
