It is a ancient African custom for young people at around the age of 14 and over, and sometimes younger, to be taken to adult training, but not in the way that it was done with Tafari Makennon. At a set time of the year, a large number of youths would have been taken away from the Village of their parents, by Elders and great teachers of various skills, who are related to the Village, and they would spend some time away from their parents and family at a skills training center, maybe in the bush, or at a very isolated Village, so that there be nothing to distract them, while they are being taught, the true experiences which life will bring to them, as they live from day to day. So they learn to live away from their parents, and learn to interact with other community people, and how to get along with other youths like themselves. Generally when they return to their Villages, they are welcomed back as young adults, and are given the responsibilities, of how to help to care for the village and general community, and how to make the community a better place to live for all the people. So, yes, this is an African way of life, but the normal way, is that the students are not given any house for themselves, thay are given rough experiences of life from which they learn knowledge and wisdom, to be used in their life in the future.
