Re: The Bitter Truth
In Response To: Re: The Bitter Truth ()

Rastafari is a NEW NAME , for a old old movement . The names of yore are shango , wisi, kumina , myal , pocu , ethiopianism ,zionism , blackwellians , palmyard , bongoism ,blackheartman/rootsman/bushman/beardedman , garveyism etc , etc . All are the names given to the same energy that today infuses Rastafari .

It was only Myal and Kumina that was able to bring us togather as a people a begin the rebirth of our love for who we were . These raw African energies in the form of Myal and Kumina , made enslave Africans a hard and expense and dangerous endeavor , they unified members of different tribes and ethinicites who often times practice differing religions- under the umbrella of Myal and the drumbeat of Kumina the revolts for freedom were fought and carried on in earnest , till liberty was won .

With our liberty came the need to reach out to our many brothers and sister lost to the Christian ideaology that taught self hate to the African and all things African , so the need for pride in our Africanness and the creation of a new self-image (the Jah-part of Man) was first seen by Blackwell who taught both Garvey and Howell , Blackwell himsell a practitioner of pocu , first taught that what any man can do , all other man can do as well , and later develop the concept of man is God , because of his ability to make real his thoughts .

Garvey seized on the idea of using a christian monarch ,who was also African as the focal point on which the rebirth of black dignity can be realized . Knowing fullwell that the love of our (all things African) soul , is root to our true liberation . Howell is a student of Garvey .

A black king was not enuff , for we all remember being sold in to bondage by black kings , so it was necessary to create a black Christ(ethiopianism) , for those amongst us lost to christian ideaology . whose concept of God was such that God was alien to who they are . With Garveyism on the wane in the west ,Zionism in the carribbean took up the slack and the worship of greatmen became popular . Whilst in Africa Garveyism became rushing whirlwind of fire , brimestone and bloodshed ,which led to the direct freedom of African nations as we know today . Garveyism(black nationalism) is alive and well in Africa , as we in the west turn to prayer and supplication(religiosity) .

The movement that is Rastafari is not about cultic personalities to be worship as God , but the continuos struggle for the African soul , and we who lives are spent on the alter of that struggle are no more or less than the African you see in the street , our only purpose is to carried the struggle forward evermore
