Can multiracial people be racist or embrace ideas of racial superiority?

Dear IV,

You'll probably dismiss this topic suggestion, but I believe this is
something the mixed-race community should explore if it is to be or if it
wants to think of itself (I apologize for generalizing) as being at the
forefront of freeing us in these United States, regardless of race, from
what are considered outdated ways of thinking with respect to race.

Can multiracial people be racist or embrace ideas of racial superiority?

In a country if not a world where being white is better than being black and
blackness is often stigmatized, can the products of unions between the two
be racist?

Examples:

In South Africa, there have been many cases among the colored population of
those members of the colored community who are more African in appearance
being ridiculed in school by their more mixed looking classmates for being
too black in appearance (though there are those who would like to deny
this).

In the Dominican Republic, dictator Rafael Trujillo -- who was a mulatto
with a Haitian grandmother -- was notoriously anti black; although in the
Dominican context that would be considered anti Haitian. This was
reflected in his massacre of 15-30 thousand Haitian men, women and children
in the 30's and the use of the state to simultaneously promote Hispanidad
(the glorification of Spanish culture) and the suppression of African
cultural elements that were considered "Haitian".

In Latin America in general, where the majority of the population is mixed,
there are widely embraced concepts like improving the race and purifying the
blood, which encourage mixing of the races to make the population not more
mixed but more white.

I know I am being long winded here, but as a person who generally supports
your movement, I feel this issue has been neglected for too long in these
discussions about mixed race or multiracial people and their relationships
with "monoracial" people.
