I know that what you say is the truth. I have studied the start of civilizations, and the core need for survival is what initiated superiorty/heirachy. This has grown from the basic need to live, but to expand in need of protection from other tribes.
When a tribe grows to the limit that their common boundries can no longer support their survival, then history shows us that expansion has always been the way.
It is human nature, and not an ethnical one.
True students of history such as yourself would know this.
