This is the first time I really had a chance to read this article and all I can say is that Jamaican Rastas are being portrayed here as a bunch of fools.
Now, I am not from the U.S. or Jamaica either but in the name of a special brand of tourism we are being sold a false reality about life in Jamaica.
I have Jamaican friends and I observed the way they double speak. They say similar things to what this article presents then in a deeper discussion they express the same concerns as others on the issues of race and gender discrimination.
Also, I had the fortunate experience of reasoning a bit with Bob Marley and I drew from him that key issues surrounding race and gender were being played down in favour of cosmetic alliances that favour tourism.
Now I do not expect my comments to be taken favorably by many who wish racial issues be put aside in favour of just saying praises to Haile Selassie I and onelove. (more illusions)
