Greetings Timothy
The cross was not used as a Christian symbol until the time of Constantine, three centuries after Y'shua. There is no archeological evidence that supports that Christians used the symbol prior to that time. The Christian cross symbol was borrowed from 'pagan' sources, as they would say.
The New Testament does not specifically describe the instrument upon which Christ died, though the book of Acts refer to it as a "tree." The Greek word xulon, translated "tree", can mean a stick, club, tree, stake, or other wooden articles...but NOT cross.
No where does the bible command its use. No where does it mention the Church's use of it.
In other words, the cross does not originate from Christianity.
Research into the origin of the cross and you will find. There is nothing to be afraid of.
Peace
