Tafari Makonnen's father was a warrior who was engaged in a long religious wars between the Christians and the Muslims and they were always fighting about who should sit on the Ethiopian Throne. Ras Makonnen was his name and he was the head of the Ethiopian government and head of the Army and the only person who was above him in power, who he had to report to, was Menelik who was the Emperor of Ethiopia. He grow up in the Palace of Menelik since he was 14 years of age since Menelik was his uncle. He was also a very wealthy man, so, although Tafari his son was motherless since he was two years old, he was never short of food, clothing and shelter like you and myself, he may have missed his mother but he was not a suffer like me.
When Tafari was 13 years and three months old his gave him the position of governor, and a house and a tutor and other people to assit him in the works including his grand mother. The point which I am trying to make here, is that Tafari Makonnen was not a sufferer for material things,he had more than his heart could wish. About five months after he was given position of governor with the title of Dejazmatch, which means keeper of the door, his father died and was buried before he was 14 years of age, that means that at the young age of under 14, he was motherless and fatherless, but he was not hungry, naked and homeless as would probably happen with us.
When Emperor Menelk died he left the Throne for his grand son Lij Eyasu, but he would not behave his self and was trying make the Throne into a Muslim religion which was something which they had fought over in the past, the elders counciled him but he would not listen, so they took away the Throne and gave it to his sister Empress Zawadi. Before this time, Tafari was known as Dejazmatch Tafari, but now that he was promoted to Ras, he became known as Ras Tafari two words not one word Rastafari, but Ras Tafari. He became the Crown Prince whicn is to say he would be the next person to, get the Throne, after Empress Zawadi. Well, there was some people around who were having some kind of gossip with the intention of causing trouble, and the elders decided to crown him as Negus, which would give him power to descipline the trouble makers, so, he was crown as Negus which is King, before it was his time for him to become Emperor. You can sip on that for now, and I will bring you more on my return visit. there is so much information indeed.
Take the best care of yourself and your people.
Again I send many oceans of blessings and self determination to African people everywhere.
ONE BLACK HEART ONE BLACK LOVE.
Baba Ras Marcus.
