to me these scriptures speak of the Most High within oneself, not letting things outside become more relevent than the Most High which resides within . . .not letting any idol or image get in the way of TRUTH as this is the way of the mind - to fixate on things/thoughts - when thoughts in their existance merely exist and fade away - they are TEMPORARY and are not the ABSOLUTE.
confusing the temporary for the absolute is bowing to idols and graven images. this can happen in any situation in life - and is not specific to any one people, religion, culture, etc . .. it is a common condition of the HUMAN experience.
