Zugby,
I hear what you say but was also wanting to suggest that Selassie I was in a kingdom thats traditions had not been changed. He was, in effect preserving traditions that had not been lost or denegrated. He also ruled a Kingdom that has a high level of death and this had been part of the reality of Ethiopia for thousands of years.
In the rural areas where there was famine, this was no unusual thing and many people would die in great numbers due to the ruggedness of terain and lack of resources to survive.Death in great numbers had been going on for thousands of years. There was not enough food resources to keep everyone alive. This is indicative of countries like this.Selassie was trying to change this but still had to bear the burden of the harsh reality...hence the death sentence because you cant spare food and other resources to keep people alive when you dont have them and those people(murderers, rebels) arent contributing to the cohesive upliftment of society in a way where the nation benefitted. You need people who are productive towards the goal of ensuring the naked be clothed, the hungry be fed, children and elderly cared for ect.In a country like Ethiopia, these DRASTIC measures were employed for pure hand to mouth survival.
Yea he did hang the man to send a message but he was sending a message to people to not go against him as this would prove fatal for the Ethiopian peoples on the whole.
The key is...he was preserving what the Kingdom ALLREADY WAS.Restoration and preservation are QUITE DIFFERENT.Only after restoration is there preservation.
Babylons weapons are more money and resources nowdays than guns. You cant beat babylon with a gun.It was OVERT now babylon is more COVERT.The weapons have changed now.
Strengthen your mind.
You are the common denominator in life, your actions act as an example for others, but first you must take them.
Bless...
