How do you view the use of musical mass media during the "hay-day" of conscious rap. I'm referring to circa 1988-1993 (?) with artists such as Public Enemy, Ice Cube, KRS1, Sistah Souljah, Paris, etc.
These were rappers coming so strong with a message of "don't believe the hype" that's been fed to you, etc. I remember clearly how the Malcolm X was resuscitated, Black Muslim congregations swelled. The message was really getting out about Black Pride, Black Education, etc.
It was so very popular and well-spread out in the black community. At that time being "conscious" was "IN". But now that has passed... to what do you attribute this?
