Absolutely, Ras Tyehimba.
A newer form of social control/incarceration is the projection of the fear of being "out of the norm". If the controllers dictate what is considered to be normal behavior, they dictate our actions. This is made much easier by rewarding those who conform the most to their indoctrination thru upward social valuation, most likely through financial (materialistic) incentive and reward.
I have encountered MANY people who are fearful of deviating from an institutional mainstream notion solely because doing so gives them the appearance of having an abnormal mental state. They would sooner settle for what they know to be a fallacy while conforming with society rather than accept truth, especially if those truths disturb their comfort level.
It is complete 100% Freudian psychology used against the masses.
Monkey see. Monkey do.
There can be no progress towards liberation by following different notions that adhere to the same hierarchical/abnormal precepts as the oppressor.
As long as one is restrained by the fear of the unknown AND particularly social/peer rejection, he clings to the dictated norms like a mother's bosom without question.
We become self-incarcerated in a much more detrimental manner than physical bondage.
