I do not think that Rastafari has been "diluted for the most part to a fashionable trend" or whatever it was you said. Amongst white people and middle and upper class people that might be true. I don't think it's true for the masses of grassroots rastafari people in the caribbean. People are generally not willing to sacrifice their freedom, livelihoods or even lives for a fashionable trend. People don't generally take the trouble to grow back their locks eleven times, after they've been forcibly shaved by police every time, if those locks are just a fashionable trend. (Which happened to a friend of mine, not to me, just to be clear). Some places in the caribbean might be more tolerant to rastafari people than they were 20 years ago. But Rastas are still discriminated against in jobs and schools, targeted by law enforcement as being a bunch of "criminals" "madmen" "subversives" and perhaps even "thugs" :) Rasta is no trend to I and I.
