greetings.
the raw materials that this war is over are building blocks for many many things that our modern societies utilize and have come to take for granted - such as computers, cell phones, aerospace, etc.
the state that this region is in is a compounded problem starting with the colonization of the area and expropriation of its raw materials to build up industrial societies. i feel like congo at this point is in a tug of war between competing industrial superpowers and the people are stuck in between. the fact that this has been tolerated so long not only speaks of racism, but also how much societies have come to depend on the materials that are expropriated.
it really is a sad situation. one thing that i have thought about was that with the amount of research and technology that is available - is there a possibility to create a synthetic version of these minerals or at least the special conductive properties that these minerals possess which makes them so crucial that can be created?
