"Africa vows to stop Darfur carnage"

The African Union will not allow another Rwanda in Darfur, the director of the union's peace and security section, Commodore Mefin bin Ega, pledged on Thursday.

As the 53-member African Union prepares a tenfold increase in its forces in Sudan, reports are coming in about massive human rights abuses against civilians, particularly children, in Sudan's western province of Darfur.

On Tuesday, about 3000 more internally displaced people sought refuge in a camp near El Fasher in north Darfur following clashes between Sudanese and rebel forces.
