"South Africa arrests priest over 600 bogus marriages"

JOHANNESBURG - South African police have arrested a priest suspected of performing 600 fake marriages over the past two years and have pointed to a possible nationwide syndicate, officials said on Wednesday.

The scam allowed foreign men to obtain South African citizenship by fraudulently marrying women whose identity cards had been stolen and then divorcing them before they were found out, the department of home affairs said.
