"Thatcher agrees to pay bail for son in S. Africa: report"

Former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher agreed to pay the 165,000-pound bail (about 297,000 US dollars) required to release her son Mark Thatcher from house arrest in South Africa, the British Times newspaper reported Wednesday.

The money would be paid within 36 hours, the paper said.

Mark was arrested in Cape Town last week on suspicion of helping finance an alleged coup against the Equatorial Guinean government.
