People have to realise that they hold on to their images because they don't know any better. Yeah, sure we're beautiful creatures....just like the other species that exist among us. But our true beauty lies within our innermost selves....it is not an external quality....
in the piece above you talk about people who may take it to the extreme...like those who undergo cosmetic surgery. But what about those who fool themselves by wearing dashikis and headwraps in the attempt to look more 'African'. Even though there is nothing fundamentally wrong with this, it is still an illusion that many cling to. Why? Because these people hope that others would define them based on external criteria....just like those supermodels we see parading on the walkways. |
