(this sort of thing is happening a lot in Guyana at the moment, i.e. people with "connections" are un-prosecuteable and can get away with anything. But police lack of action in cases of rape is by no means confined to Guyana or to the "third world"; in London recently there were two very high-profile cases of rapists who had struck up to 100 times in one case, with police never having taken the reports seriously (cos their mates the black cab drivers "don't do such things" so obviously the women must be lying, and also they failed to file reports simply to keep the statistics of reports of rape low). Just to emphasize that this is not only a Guyanese or a "third world" issue... anyway check the story:
