7 Misconceptions About Rastas and the Rastafari Movement
The Rastafari movement is a spiritual movement that arose in Jamaica in the 1930s with the crowning of His Imperial Majesty, Emperor Haile Selassie I (previously Ras Tafari Makonnen) of Ethiopia. The movement has since grown to an estimated 1,000,000 members and has had a significant cultural impact on the world. With its growth, several misconceptions have grown about its beliefs, practices, and practitioners, as well as what makes one a "Rastafari". Although I'm sure there are more, these seven are the most common misconceptions that I would like to clear up.
