I don't remember seeing a headline about witches in Botswana newspapers since I was a child. Last week I saw one though. Apparently 3 men have been arrested on suspicion for witchcraft. They were due to appear in a customary court this morning. I don't know how it went. I also don't know where the line is drawn between cases for the traditional courts and cases for the modern western style courts. Perhaps it just depends on where the case is reported. But I don't think chiefs have the power to pass death sentence or even try such important cases as murder since democracy took over. Other powers that the chiefs lost are precedence over matters of stray cattle.
