Did you know that there was a peace Treaty which was signed between the British and the Maroons?
It has been writen that a English Soldier by the name of Captain Guthrey met with Cudjoe under a mango tree and exchanged hats, that is to say, that Guthrey gave Cudjoe his hat, and Cudjoe gave Guthrey his hat, as a symbal of the peace Treaty agreement. According to the information historically speaking, the English were tired of the ghost like victories of the Maroons, since the would ambush them from time to time killing many of them and disappear in thin air, with no trace of them even being around. Then the Maroons were also tired of the war, since they had to give up their place of living and camping as English soldiers found out where they were hanging out from time to time.
