Tookie, one of the founders of the infamous Crips, has been on death row in Cali for many years, and has for a long time been one of the most, if not the most effective voice against gang violence in the U.S. This bredren is so powerful that one letter from him to gang members in Newark, NJ resulted in an immediate, massive decrease in gang-related violence in that city. He has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize several times and has even received an award for "good citizenship" or some such thing from none other than G.W. Bush himself. He is scheduled to be executed on Dec. 13th for crimes which it has never been proven that he committed. "Tookie" is one of the key people who can really bring unity to the various street tribes or gangs in the U.S. and influence them in a positive direction instead of an anti-social direction. That is precisely why they want to kill him. They would much rather that "gangs" keep on killing one another and innocent civilians, than that "gang" members unite for a positive cause. When the Crips and Bloods called a short-lived truce after the LA rebellion in 92, there was a marked increase in police harrasment of gang members, more than when they were busy killing one another.
