I think the practice is based on the idea that a woman should be a virgin when she is given to marriage, and if she is sold into marriage by her family, and if she is proven not to be a virgin, by her husband who bought her from her parents, then there is a big scandal in the village, against that family, and the husband may go back and demand whatever he paid the parent for the bride. As a result of that kind of practice, parents will pay those people who practice, mutilating a young girls sacred productive organs,
in order for that girl to remain a virgin, to be sold, on her day of marriage. I do think that it has some religious under tones, sin there are some people who preach about going to paradise, and having many virgins as a part of their happiness. I do think that the Arabs, have a great lot to do with the planting of this very cruel and bad idea, among African people.

But if that is the religious laws which they are trying to use, it is very on fair to young girls, that their parent would allow them to suffer such a barbaric and cruel action, just to prepare them to be sold for the highest bidder. And what about the man, how can it be proven whether he is a virgin or not, whether he had mated before he got married. So you see, this law is unfair and very dangerious to our children, and it must be resisted until it is abolished, discredited, and abandoned.
