I hope others reason with you a bit on your views here.
I think people can move through habits that aren't always overly harmful if they are continually working out their lives. I know people who smoked marijuana then gave it up and they are doing fine. One of the main problems with using drugs is many people get stuck as if drug use is the end of the road.
Marijuana, like other intoxicants, can allow for shifts in perspectives thus some can gain insights by engaging underused regions of their brains. But then again, there are better ways to do this. For instance, one can engage in different physical activities and even learn from different cultural points of view. To me, alternatives to smoking or drug use are better so I would recommend those.
