Yes, I agree with him. I can see how some might see it as a flip side of the same coin - the idea of a widescale western conspiracy - in a way - is the same as following the line of thinking that western elites are responsible for anything positive going on in the affairs of the area - since either way it re-enforces the general paradigm of control.
However - I don't think that being vigilant in the area of questioning the possibility of manipulation is tantamount to being the flipside of Friedman's rationale.
