I understand where you are coming from. In it's mythical form, a functioning democracy comes down to personal responsibility of citizens to keep things in check. As education is slowly eroded while emotionalism trumps facts and critical thinking - this becomes less likely IMO. They say rats who are fed junk food from birth choose to starve and die than to eat healthy food when it is offered in their mature stage.
