Re: Corrosive prejudice within black community

The argument of elements of jealousy is not all together false as many darker-skinned Blacks could envy light-skinned persons for their color (because of the material advantages that comes with it). That is not difficult to grasp. However, if that is the sum total of the rationale from light-skinned ones, then they are extremely defensive, ignorant and insensitive. There could be explainable reasons dark-skinned blacks would feel tinges of jealousy as a result of the poor conditioning all sides received, to see beauty through the ideas of Whites; to see what is considered intelligent through those false standards. Who would not want to be considered beautiful, trustworthy and intelligent at first glance? I must add, when using the European concepts for beauty, most light-skinned people are not comparably attractive although paleness gives them a material advantage. They are certainly not more trustworthy or intelligent than dark-skinned blacks.

The conditioning that most people get will have an impact on them, and for some people it will take generations for them to get over it. Unless they genuinely examine themselves about Colorism and the long reaching affects, they remain with the conditioning. Those who are making the accusation of jealousy are admitting what they are often trying to deny, that Colorism is a problem that needs addressing. Even if they only see it as jealousy, then that is a problem for Blacks to address. The reason for the jealousy, or the perception that jealousy exists, should be examined, and could expose the ills in the system with the false values all sides were nurtured with.

Once people get privileges in this system they are inclined to be arrogant. Privileges and arrogance go together. Privilege makes ones feel more worthy based on a bogus premise. Privileged people are usually overbearing, and light-skinned ones generally accept and adhere to it as they feel it works in their favour. Of course, there are some who get better informed, work on their conduct and improve, as do some Whites. Better informed dark-skinned Blacks could find light-skinned ones overbearing (arrogant) just by their presence alone. They pose as obstacles to directly confronting the system. They are usually used to promote the notion of Black inclusion alongside the token dark-skinned Black. If they get involved in Black causes, just like Whites, they want to be leaders. They want to dominate the discourse. When they are not better informed about Colorism they are just too insensitive and shallow.

Colorism is an obstacle in the development of Blacks in general. I know some Black organizations use light-skinned Blacks in frontline roles including public relations. These organizations do this to pander to the status quo to gain a wider audience and feel by so doing their organizations would do better financially. I understand why they operate this way, however, I never accept it or follow suit.

I deal with these issues to share my concerns, to give others more to consider and to assess the character of people. I am also sharing what I stand for.
