It seems one of the most confused here is you. Although I personally have not seen a specific list of Ras Tafari elders I do know that the original and only elders in this movement were and are Black. I also am aware that although the origins of Rasta are ancient, the reemergence in the 1930s was in the Caribbean, specifically Jamaica, and has to this day an entire impact on the whole of the Caribbean, and into other areas where there are displaced Africans.
I have also come to know that due to minimal resources and a forced Christianized mindset, much of what was originally produced as the original Rasta concepts, is being used today as a pretext for arguments against many who do not identify with Christianity. Many hardcore Christians are trying to see the light through the banner of Rasta.
White involvement in Rasta, particularly as Ras Tafari is one of the biggest tragedies to befall the movement. This being due to the casual way they embrace Ras Tafari. As a white woman, I personally have rejected the notion of taking on the various titles and look, just to feel I am involved. This has never been my focus.
In addition, the misinformation being spread, particularly by white people in the U S and to some degree in Europe is becoming more devastating as the original and current elders, who should be setting the agenda are being overrun by the advanced technology and misused resources afforded to whites, who want to take over. This to me is exactly the method that is used by the "babylon" system i.e. the U S government and its allies, to oppress the very people ones here claim to be aligning with or "helping".
As such, it is appropriate that all these issues be addressed in the open and measured against the greater body of information that is available today. I do not think that when Haile Selassie gave land to a group in Jamaica, he meant that was to be the only set of people to define repatriation, and to control the whole movement for all Rastas. Many Rastas Repatriate to Africa and do not relate to this one body.
I think it is even more dangerous after reading this thread for Rastas to continually accept the views of a handful of people as the main body to determine how the movement developes.
There was an article written by Tyehimba that was posted on this board and many people agreed it was important, and I think it should be revisited as some are now calling into question some of the important points he made which they supported.
