Kaya, one could say the same for the Bible. One can justify anything with the Bible...hatred, violence, rape etc. It is all there in that book. I am not condeming the Bible...I read it daily, but you know as well as I do that there different levels to reading scriptures, whether Gita or Bible. You are right, though, in that the Gita can be used to justify caste, but the Vedic writings and the Laws of Manu are even more extreme. IMO, the only teachings to come through India that truly rebel against caste and oppression is Buddha and the Jains. "Hindu" is a European term used to generalize the many different religions of the continent of India. Some have things in common, many do not. To say Hindus worship many gods is in fact a misnomer, for one should say that the many different religions of India see God in a different way. Every "Hindu" knows that when they are praying to a "god" they are actually praying only to a manifestation of the One Divine Reality: Brahmin. Indians have great systems for different people with different spiritual needs, thus the three main branches of yoga, each fulfilling the individual's level of devotion. Personally I feel that we cannnot generalize the religions of India, nor trivialize their highly developed spiritual sytems.
