Re: A New Faculty of Interpretation: by Mutabaruka

I am quite in agreement with what Mutabaruka has to say in his article. He himself has come along way to realize what he now expounds and he is ketching a lot of fire for this simple truth and clarity.

At a Rastafari gathering in NY I heard a brethren say that yes they only had the bible and that they used the teachings within that book to knowingly and unknowingly create havoc within the movement especially concerning the women of Rastafari. He as a youth of nine years old when he came into the movement, whom have trod Rastafari for 37yrs. had to look into himself and some of the teachings from the bible and see that many of the things they did was folly. And many more of the brethrens are realizing this. What we as the so called intellects of this movement must do is to begin by slowly but surely educate our elders of the Afrikan knowledge that they never got. It is not enough to become learned and schooled by a much higher thought and become arrogant towards our elders whom have trod through great tribulation to maintain this livity. Their actions stemmed from ignorance and so they had to pratice what they preached even when they saw for themselves that it wasn't working.

Most of the Incient Rastafari elders in JA have no Matriarchs beside them for more than one reason. The main one being the oppression of the women. Rastafari men didn't seem to attractive to the women when they behaved as if the female were to be seen and not heard. Some women didn't like the idea of being told they were unclean during the time of monthly issue, knowing full well that these men had mothers who birthed them and brought them into this world via what they now dare to call unclean.

There were many dawtas who succumbed to this brand of Rastafari in the early days and that is why it took root and sort of took over the movement. Today you see young Rastamen perpetrating that same brand of Rastafari but yet you will see them parading with baldhead sistren who doesn't give a damn about Rasta livity. And they can't tell their baldhead baby mothers what to do or what to wear but if those same brethren is with a Rasta sistren, she must be is slave queen.

Well we now see that does not work anymore. The Rasta sistrens are liberating themselves at the expense of being called feminists, women's libbers or as they would label the warrior queens who stood firm on the Binghi grounds, sodomites.

Another thing young Rasta sistrens and brethrens must be aware of that in the early days not all Rasta women succumbed to that man doctrine that rooted itsel in Rastafari. There were women on the Binghi grounds who stood up to these brethrens. Who fought tooth and nail with these brethrens for their right. Because it is impossible to liberate a people while you are busy discriminating against your women. Those who give birth to your nation. Those who brought you into this world.

As for I, I glorify in the black woman. I give thanks and praise to her that brought I here. I know that H.I.M. crowned Empress Mennen with H.I.M. because HE knew that Ethiopia had a long history of Divine Women and all he did was re-established that on Nov. 2nd., 1930.

And for those who call upon H.I.M.'s name but ignore his teachings will be like the careless Ethiopians that will go down in babylon and soddom and gomorrah.

One Perfect Love.
