Re: what privilege?
In Response To: Re: How can it be avoided ()

People who work hard and make opportunities for themselves are not privileged; they are ambitious, hardworking and tough. To me a privilege is something automatic. It is having opportunities granted to you based on something other than your own hard work, for example, someone's family lineage, race, sex etc. A person of privilege can be given an opportunity based on those things. A black immigrant who gone to the US has no such privileges as you should well know. They must work to make all their opportunities, as nothing is handed to them. I do not know where you are trying to go with this.
This is not say that there are not black people who fall into the white supremacist trap. But as for donning a ‘white mask’ you may have to clearly define what you mean by that in this context. However I do not believe this can be a legitimate question given the parameters you have set. If we are speaking of black African immigrants then the idea of any privilege does not arise. Not because I make the assumption that they steadfastly refuse to buy into a white supremacist system, but because of the reality that they are not even allowed to. As an immigrant and a black one at that, you DO NOT BELONG AND YOU ARE NOT WANTED. You can sugar coat it all you like but it is fact. Any African, Caribbean, etc person who has migrated can tell you that. It is not your country and they never let you forget it. Privilege? What privilege?
