Dear sis Heather. Give thanks.

Clearly, we all in this time are victims of racism, and I agree that all must reject it, but I don't think it's okay for me personally to say'hey I wasn't there. It's not my fault.' It's not about guilt but about responsibility. I've been given this white skin and I have to live the reality of this, just as black people have to live theirs. Of course we know that the whole concept of race itself is bogus, but terrific suffering has been inflicted and we can't erase this history or call it back: we can engage it and break through to truth and reconciliation. Truth comes first. Just because something is uncomfortable doesn't mean it ain't healing. And a little trickster inside me says it's good for us white folks to feel some heat, just to know how it feels.

I wish we could all agree that the context in which this conversation takes place is in the ONE LOVE, and for the healing of the nations. If InI love Selassie I, how else could it be?
