At this point in time I can see that it is in the interest of competing world powers to take sides contrary to the one of the dominant one in some affairs. However the resource needs of Russia and China far outweigh any genuine goodwill posturing - they are in need of Africa's resources just as much and I highly doubt that after a certain point they would be respectful of Africans control over their own resources, land and sovereignty.
I agree that in some ways, the methods of extraction by China seem to offer a slightly less parasitic relationship than the one that the West has historically offered. But I do not know enough about Russia's relationship to say the same about them. Any insights?
