Montesquieu says: “Il y a des choses que tout le monde dit, parce qu’elles ont été dites un fois.” There are things that everyone says (accepts and repeats) because they have been said once. Sounds like Montesquieu was familiar with the premise of Inception and Mr. Baldwin was in complete agreement as he opens his late 19th century treatise with the above inscription. Unfortunately he was also its victim.
The author's premise:
"Many stupidities of history and dogmatic denials of the past have no other warrant. Instead of repeating anything “because it has been said once,” it is better to accept the results of conscientious investigation.”
His investigations apparently resulted in his arrival at the conclusion that Ethiopians or Cushites originated in Arabia; and that Arabia was THE Ethiopia of OLD. He further states that the Ethiopic race is a Caucasian race. He even lists Tirharqa as an Arabian King, which if we accept his premise would render Taharqa a Caucasian. One wonders if he survived to witness the excavation of Taharqa'a likeness in the early 20th century.
