I can accept what you say.

One thing that has always troubled me was Selassie fleeing to the embrace of Europeans. I always looked at that as an extreme contradiction regardless of the circumstances.

It proves to me that it does not take a physical presence from the invader to be 'colonized' as Ethiopians are so fast to boist about not being.

What was Ethiopia's condition following Selassie I's departure?

Can you discount EVERYTHING said about Selassie in the o.p.'s article?
