The first slave master to be killed in the Morant Bay uprising was a fellow by the name of Baron Von Ketelhodt, a German by nationality who had migrated to Jamaica and as a result of slave trading activities, he was able to own five plantations as a result of his slave trasding activities. It was also his dirty practice to send poor black people to prison on a regular basis since he had the title of Custos, which means he was the highest authority in the parish, and was also magistrate which made him a judge of black people. Baron was killed while he was reading what they called the riot act, which really means he was about to tell the police to shoot down black people, but was rushed by the sufferers who brought him to his perpectual end.
Now I have to remind you that Paul Bogle did went to the Maroons before and told them about the suffering conditions of their own African people, and asked them to be on his people side in this uprising, but they betrayed their own black people agai,n as they did earlier in Tacky's Rebellion and Sam Sharpe's Rebellion. And for these and other reasons we should despise the European name Maroon, and restore to them their original name of Coromantees, as a symbol of forgiveness, and if they refused to accept their original name, then the stain of betraying their own black people shall remain with them forever.
