Some thoughts on what you have presented:

* If the defense's first arguments were that the act was consensual, what about the possibility that it could be a pre-emptive plea bargain - given what strauss-kahn's lawyers know he is up against and the best bet in the long-term.

* There is an assumption in your stance that the story about the maid is correct - that she is indeed a sole loner operator and everything about her background is 100% fact in regards to how the mainstream media is reporting it.

* Was there a reason as to why was Strauss-Kahn taken down NOW . . . that is an important question in all of this. There exists evidence that perhaps there is a motive behind the timing of this from both the French angle and the IMF angle. If there was a motive behind him being take down NOW - there are a number of possibilities:

1) he does this all the time - he is as the media is painting him a raging sex-aholic womanizer - they knew about it and made arrangements for this to happen now(as you say he was expecting someone else and they sent the maid instead). He is indeed guilty and got caught this time for political ends(whereas he usually gets away with this kind of behavior all the time because of his status).

2) some part of what actually happened in that hotel between strauss-kahn and the maid is not true. If timing is important to when he was taken down - then there exists the possibility that 1) the maid was setup into a situation that they KNEW Strauss-Kahn would have acted or 2) they are having her lie. If she is indeed a lone immigrant - what do you know about what they are holding over her head? is her immigration status at risk, have they threatened to send her back to her home country? did they threaten her? etc., etc. There are just as many ways that they could make her say something. Have you exhausted the credibility of this possibility?
