The Obama administration has signaled a shift in policy regarding home ownership. It is focussing more on making rents more affordable. Looks like the "ownership" society paradigm is shifting. Certain people will be able to own homes while many more will be renting.
Although Bush touted the "ownership" society paradigm - it is humbling to realize how the financial institutions capitalized on this zeitgeist - the overall trajectory which fed into the whole system of fraudulently induced mortgages, mortgage backed securities vis-a-vis seemingly "cheap" credit. Of course this was a ponzi scheme from top to bottom with no real goal of creating the perceived vision. The eventual outcome of a fully realized "ownership" society at it's full potential - a nation of self-sufficient homeowners - free from the grasp of the pirates in finance and energy would be quickly nipped in the bud should this have actually taken place.
