A draconian and dirty trick: The health insurance companies are now running ads promoting bi-partisan healthcare reform. lol
I'm not sure if you saw the Potter (Cigna) interview on Bill Moyer's Journal; Mr. Potter stated that back in '93, 90% of premiums was spent on the reimbursment of the insured's healthcare costs, today its nearer 80%, where will it be if this current attempt at reform, fails?
The Senate Finance Committee is proposing a cap on the insured's out-of-pocket at 35% with the insurance companies' responsibility at 65%. (Translation: On a hospital bill of $100k, you're on the hook for $35k) How do you like them apples?
Personally, I went from paying 10%-20% while employed by corporate America, simultaneously, changing plans each time the contract was re-negotiated. (i.e. changing primary care physicians). Since, I became self-employed my premium has more than quadrupled and my out-of-pocket in some instances is 50%.
I'm a relatively healthy person, how often do you think I see a doctor? I pay, number one because right now, I can afford it; and secondly, because like Chris Rock so astutely stated some years ago, so that I might have the dignity of dying on a bed.
