Re: THE NEW RASTA, A NEW LOST NATION WITH MISGUIDE

This article highlights some of the issues that I think needs addressing, especially online.

How do Whites and mixed race/ light skin people fit into Black movements that are still grappling with the issues of racism, colorism and gender biases? Most people shy away from seriously addressing these issues so inevitably Black organizations that are supposed to be about the upliftment of Black folks end up accepting White privilege. They end up being overly concerned about how they appear to Whites and about hurting their feelings. In most cases, Whites continue to set the agenda for Blacks.

One of the reasons Blacks do not address this White problem is because many who claim to be Black are light-skin/mixed race, and they, together with support from ignorant dark-skin Blacks, are at times deliberately and often unconsciously accommodating Whites and the White privilege mindset. Even among dark-skin Blacks, many feel that in order to be economically successful they have to accommodate Whites.

One cannot even have a meaningful discussion on these issues online as the majority of people who engage these forums are White and ‘Lights’ who use their numbers to drown out the very few dark-skin Blacks who will not kowtow to them.

The majority of dark skin Africans are caught up in bread and butter issues so they would not be online regularly, if at all. I think these unaddressed social issues, especially in relation to how they keep dark-skin Blacks among the poorest in communities, allow those with more resources, usually Whites and ‘lights’, to dominate Black discourses.

Without addressing the issues of racism and colorism, defensiveness and distractions dominate Black forums while the White agenda is advanced.
