Re: Class Solidarity of Barack Obama and "Skip" Ga

Rasi said: "…If his intentions are solely imperialistic in nature, why would it be necessary to make such a statement. America has been very imperialistic in it's actions in the past without any outward overtures of allegiance/solidarity with Africa or Africans."

You are being ridiculous here. America's imperialism would continue with or without Obama, but, especially after Bush, Obama is the new face of American imperialism that they feel many would be less resistant to because he can claim to relate to different ethnic groups.

Rasi said: "…No one would argue that Obama is a great 'politician.' As politicians attempt to be 'all things' for all people. Considering that America is a majority white country, it is natural that he, if his goal is to be president - would seek to gain the 'trust' of the majority constituency."

This is a far cry from your initial statement. "Obama spoke of having the "blood of Africa" in his vein ( has he ever said he has the blood of urope in his veins?)" First, you did not admit to any error in your first statement…especially as you now claim that it is the political thing to "gain the 'trust' of the majority constituency". Therefore, I feel that your main intent, along with being unnecessarily chatty, is to obfuscate the criticisms of Obama just like the campaign hacks.

Rasi said: …"people have free will to reside where they want. But how can one's mindset be measured? If we assume that a person residing in an imperialistic or a state that supports colonial activities, and the person is not actively seeking to exit, said geographic location, then they are by default supporting the imperialist, through the payment of taxes-one of the primary sources of finance for the 'imperialist.' There is no escaping that fact."

You ask, "But how can one's mindset be measured?" If you do not know the answer to this then why make a negative assumption about anyone who chooses to live in the U.S.? I do not see how the criticism of Obama warrants your defensive posturing with silly retaliatory assumptions.

While living in the U.S. or any other imperialist nation, the paying of taxes there among other things also contributes to the imperialist purse. But living in "non-imperialist" nations whose governments support or does business with imperialist ones (which is MOST countries) people wittingly or unwittingly contribute to imperialism. People cannot escape this by changing residence.

Rasi said: "Firstly, how do these 'mind de-colonizers' identify a 'colonized mind?' I think Prince outlined pretty well, what he defines as a Colonized Mind."

Maybe if you take your time to learn and observe, instead of nitpicking and distorting, you would understand what I mean.

Rasi said: "Once the mind has been adequately de-colonized, why would one(s) choose to remain in the land of the colonizers?"

One cannot escape contributing to imperialism and all its evils by residing elsewhere in the world, even Africa. (See my earlier response) Of course, there is a way people could live to mitigate against the down side of such ‘contributions’.

Rasi said: "I think mention Rt. Hon Marcus Garvey was a poor choice of an example to make your point - as Garvey was adamant in his quest of organizing and centralizing Africans in the West towards repatriation to Africa. There was a tangible and physical component to his actions. Garvey did not emigrate to America to 'better' his own life, but to gather the masses towards repatriation."

Just like Garvey, others can have their plans of action to help in the decolonization process by residing or choosing to reside in the U.S. Many could have justifiable reasons for not making their plans public, so it is reckless to cast aspersions upon people based on where they reside.

Rasi said: "I would counter however, that those members of the Diaspora who have chosen to reside in Africa with the goal of assisting in the development of the continent have chosen to no longer be a 'back-seat' driver, in relation to the works of the Continent of Africa."

This is a load of crock. People (including Africans in the Diaspora) can reside anywhere and aid the development of Africans everywhere, including on the continent of Africa.

I know several persons who chose to reside on the continent and they make claims of doing much for the continent, and while some Africans do get short-term relief from what they do, they work for missions that ultimately are about helping advance western interests in Africa. Many of them make careers out of these 'charities' that are mostly funded by western, anti-African interests. They are like missionaries in Africa who give short-term relief but ultimately, their goal is to try to remove Africans from their natural state and make them more pliable to western interests.

Those who work in their communities in the US and elsewhere for the purpose of assisting Africans to develop are not back-seat drivers to the general struggle. It would be silly for people to assume that those who chose to work on the continent are some how doing more to advance the struggle. There are a lot of charlatans going to "work" on the continent. We have more proof of this today.
