I am ashamed to say this, but until recently albino children were killed at birth in my culture. Even today, the only other people that face prejudice because of their appearance are dreadlocked Rastafarians like myself. The offensive word for an albino is "murungudunhu" literally meaning "the white man (we have with us) in the district/area". A more appropriate term is "musope", but the etymology of this word is foreign and would have come with whoever introduced a revision of our attitude.
I am bringing this up because I think that although strides have been taken to confront the social stigma, more could be done and any Zimbabwean who has harboured hatred for albinos reading this should be ashamed.
