It's always wonderful for I as a Rastawombman when I hear KIngMen reasoning on this topic. Yes, the Bible can seem sexist, especially when translated by men who look down on woman because of its words. I especially HATE being addressed as "Daughter" by a rastaman because years of such titles has made Rastamen see women as their daughters, hence they are unable to feel man-woman love towards them. This 'dawta' mentality also makes them feel we are still too young and immature to be their equals.
Whenever a one calls me "Daughter" I call him "Son" then reason with him that since he could not be my son, I cannot be his daughter, even if he tells me he means "Daughter of Zion". This meaning has been lost with time, and instead Rastamen -- especially the old ones -- still keep up the sexist attitude.
However, I just brush it aside. I came to Rasta without a man, and I know I know just as much as they do about loving JAH.
Thanks for your words. They need airing widely as often as possible, just to remind Man how to be the kind of man that can love and be loved by a woman.
