Come on, admit you were wrong or defend your position without trying to abuse/hide behind this speech by Haile Selassie. You are using that speech out of context, in an attempt to justify your position.
You entered the debate on the "Questions" thread quoting from Eja's original post:
"When you speak of your African heritage, why do you omit the indigenous people of Africa from amongst whom diaspora Africans in the west came?
Your family tree (it seems) grew from east Africa, into the western dispora. You know (or say little) about the cultures of the Mandinka, Wolof, Kru, Mossi, Hausa, Kongo, Ashanti, Ibo, and other nations along THE WESTERN COASTLINE OF AFRICA from whom you are DIRECTLY descended. You are not descended from the Amhara so, why do you find it easier to identify with thier culture?
with this response:
w/ all due respect, this diatribe sounds a little tribalistic to me. i have always viewed africa holistically-viewing africa as one. as there is one africa, there is one King for those that choose the livity of Ras Tafari. The King to those of us who call ourselves Ras Tafarians is Haile Selassie."
~ "w/ all due respect, this diatribe sounds a little tribalistic to me." You were deliberately being smug, in a deliberate attempt to offend Eja, based on a very broad and GENERAL statement of fact. Now you are trying to use Haile Selassie's speech as an excuse. At no time did you offer proof that his GENERAL observation was baseless.
This statement can be dishonest based on what it implies:
"i come in the spirit of unity to heal myself and my fellow africans, not continue to open up old wounds. thats how i see it."
Mentioning Colorism and/or other differences in Africans that cause or contribute to poor relations is NOT opening up old wounds. These issues are not separate from present African issues. These issues have not been resolved, so discussing them IS NOT opening up old wounds.
