If you know your history of Christianity, you would know that Africa's Christianity does not start with the coming of Christian missionaries, but is from the very inception of the religion itself. The first matyr, the Fathers etc, these were all Africans. The last piece of wood from the Cross is in Africa, as are many other relics. It wasn't just Christianity, the Ethiopian eunuch was obviously a Jewish devotee. Other non-African religions were also embraced, just as African beliefs found their way around the world. Africa was not static or passive, and it is still not static and passive. All this was at a time when the only religion your Anglo-Saxon ancestors were acquainted with comprised painting their faces blue and howling at the moon.........
There is nothing disturbing about Africans embracing Christianity, unless you presume to know what is good for Africans and what is not. Apart from me, everyone in my family is Christian. And I would never presume to be better than them in any way. And most certainly there isn't anyone on this board more African than they are.
There are more important issues for Rastafari than pondering on why so many Africans embrace Christianity. Perhaps it is because we spend too much time on such trivia that no one else is taking us seriously. Think about it, you grew up in a nice Methodist home and you encounter Rastafari, but all you see of it is endless talk, and "reasoning", paranoia, delusion and a general out-of-touch with reality. Unless you are on drugs, you would are hardly likely to make a wrong choice.
I am in the process of building a personal website. I had planned to start it on geocities, but it keeps getting bigger. The thrust is on Rastafari in Zimbabwe, but now I am seriously thinking of adding pages devoted to Christianity and Islam and Judaism- the Abrahamic faiths- in Zimbabwe. Perhaps you will find answers to the question you asked.
But you won't find homo-lover Desmond Tutu there!!!!!
